Stepping back in time

Rations day 4 (Year 2)

Today we’ve been to The Home Front Tea Rooms in Ramsgate for lunch. We love it there because it’s just like stepping back in time to the 1940’s. The attention to detail in the décor is fantastic and the food is simple and delicious. Also, because cafés, like fish and chip shops, weren’t bound by rations, we could order whatever we fancied from the menu. Bryn was so happy about this, he just ate lots of cake for lunch!

Here are some photos of the tea rooms.

It was a beautiful day, and we drove past Ramsgate harbour, which was looking stunning in the sunshine. We were inspired to stop further around the coast at Pegwell Bay, again simplicity was a key factor as we spent an hour walking by the sea and looking at sea life in the rock pools

Food wise, I have been less busy in the kitchen today and as it was so hot this afternoon, and we were still full up from lunch, we decided not to make the cottage pie that we’d planned. Instead Bryn asked for sausage and mash, and I had salad.

Bryn’s thoughts:

Today we went to the Home Front Tea Rooms and the best thing about that was that I could eat as much cake as I wanted, so I had lemon drizzle cake, which was really nice AND some of my brother’s Malteasers cake too! I was full up.

I liked exploring the abandoned hover port at Pegwell Bay. It was fun looking in the rock pools.

Breakfast: Jam on Toast… again 10/10

Lunch: CAKES! 10/10

Dinner: Sausage and mash and peas. 10/10

Tomorrow I am looking forward to going on a picnic with my friend and I am also looking forward to porridge for breakfast.
